Happy Sunday everyone!
I know it has been forever since I last posted and I apologize for that. These last two weeks have been crazy busy and I will explain to you why. I hope all is well with you!
So two weeks ago my gym members and I were heavily involved in Spartan Race training. Burpees, Pullups, Dips, Sprints, Box Jumps, Tire Flips, Distance runs. You name it, we were doing it. Everything got crammed in until Thursday morning. After finishing a light WOD Thursday around 8 AM, the work was done. The main focus from then on out was REST and RECOVERY
Saturday finally came and I was going CRAZY! I was so excited and nervous. I had trained so long for this race that I just wanted to DOMINATE it! One of my fellow gym members and I had this thing going called “Miles Completed Till Spartan.” We started this at about the mid point of July and basically everytime we ran, we would log the miles and text that saying to eachother. That Thursday morning after the light WOD, I had just reached 80 miles. When we started that saying to eachother, I had no idea I would chalk up that much mileage, so knowing that on top of all the weight training, I was confident going into the race.
We had the 9:30 Heat. I arrived at 8:40 and was going crazy warming up. I didn’t want to overdue it, but I couldn’t help but think I wasn’t loose enough. Anyways, our heat time finally came. I rushed to the front of the starting line, continuously reminding myself that “this is the Spartan Race, this is what you have been training for for the past few months.” Thankfully, after a few minutes of a staff member talking, we were OFF!
BOOM! DONE. The race seemed extremely short but also extremely long if that makes sense. The course, a TON of hills. Do able hills, but still hills none the less. They were the kind of hills where you are at such a small and steady incline that you dread doing them. I only failed one obstacle, the scare crow throw. I actually hit the scare crow too, the spear part just didn’t stick. After coming down the final hill and receiving my metal, I was pumped to receive news that I had beaten my previous years time.
The year prior, I finished the race with a time of 58 minutes. 8 Minutes off my time, I’ll take that.
I was so happy with how the race went, it was such a great time. Believe it or not, at the end of the day I came in 39th overall and 7th in my age group (20-24). I already registered for next years event, next year though I am going to do the elite heat.
The atmosphere of the Spartan Race is phenomenal. Everyone is super competitive while on the course, but once you hit the finish line, everything is fun and games. Talks about training and active lifestyles are inevitable. They also have so many contest going on for prizes, it makes this entire event such an awesome time. I competed in the pull up contest after the race. The criteria was how many DEAD HANG pullups can you preform in one minute. I hit 23, unfortunately, a man in my bracket got 44 which was nuts. The owner of my gym, a good buddy of mine, and myself also competed in the Reebok burpee challenge. This event, max burpees in 30 seconds. We all tied with 19. This put all three of us in a tie for first place, with first place receiving free Reebok Nano shoes. They took down all our contact info so hopefully we hear back from them soon. Overall, grade A time! :))))
The next morning, I got up and headed off to vacation with my family. Sunday to Saturday in vacationland 🙂 So peaceful. I still got up every morning and hit the local gym, but I also ate just about everything in site!!! My family and I went to a pancake house one morning where I CHOWED down on Nutella pancakes. One evening we got pizza where I stuffed down 5 slices! I was a machine lol! Not to mention ice cream GALORE! Having returned home last night, this morning I woke up and weighed myself. 5 pound weight gain, I’ll take it, could have been worse considering all the food I ate!! I should be good in terms of cheat meals for quite awhile following this past week!!
One more piece of news received this past week, I PASSED MY CROSSFIT LEVEL 1 EXAM! Now Im officially a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer! I was so excited when I received the email on Friday.
So now what is on the horizon for me? Well I am running in the Spartan Super in New Jersey on September 7th and Spartan Beast in Vermont on September 21st. Coming for that Spartan Trifecta!! Need to keep kicking my butt to prepare for those!
How are you all doing, hows training and life!?
CHASING THE TOP!
