I hope all is well. Things are going pretty smoothly in my neck of the woods. My foot has been acting up again unfortunately. My blisters are cleared up, now it is the heel of my foot flaring in pain every time I transfer my weight. YAYYY. These foot pains stink but I realize they could be much worse so I am fortunate. Anyways, rest, ice, and ibuprofen should heal my heel (<<<<see what I did there LOL)
So to my main topic on the day, PROTEIN BARS! Protein bars receive alot of controversy in today's society. My opinion, alot of them on our shelves are garbage. They are normally very high in fat, high in sugar/sugar alcohols, and filled with low grade protein. All those combinations equal NO GOOD! Who wants to stuff down a 300+ calorie bar composed of 25+ grams of sugar and 8+ grams of fat….not me 🙂
One bar that I WILL recommend though is OhYeah! Victory Bars by ISS Research.
Recently I have been able to sample all of their “mini” bars. Now let me tell you, these bars are 100% awesome. Let me tell you why.
First off, the bars come in delicious flavors. They offer Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Fudge Brownie, Peanut Butter Chip, and Vanilla Almond. Everyone of these flavors is right on the money. No nasty chalky taste like you receive in many of the protein bars out there. Secondly, the profile on these bars is second to NONE. Now the bars all hold the same macro-nutrient value regardless of the flavor. With one full size bar, you have: 200 Calories, 6 Grams of Fat (1.5 G Saturated Fat) 28 Grams of Carbohydrates (20 Grams of Fiber/8 G Sugar) and 21 Grams of Protein. To me, the sight of this is a beautiful thing. Your get 80% of your daily recommended fiber intake in one simple bar, 21 grams of protein, and only 8 grams of sugar. Talk about a win win.
Now for my third positive point on these bars, the actual ingredients. Protein Blend (Oh Yeah!® Blend Consisting of Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate, Calcium Caseinate), Natural Prebiotic Fiber Syrup (Tapioca), Almond Butter, Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, [Sugar, Chocolate Liquor, Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin (An Emulsifier), and Vanilla), Agave Syrup, Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals, Cocoa Butter, Natural Flavors, Soy Lecithin (An Emulsifier), Guar Gum, Salt, and Peanut Butter. In so many bars today, your main source of protein is whey concentrate or soy protein, or better yet, protein isn’t even the main ingredient. This bar provides 3 great sources of protein FIRST ingredient wise and then follow it with whole, rich additives such as almond butter, agave syrup and cocoa butter.
If you are on the fence about choosing a protein bar or have considered using one as a go to snack throughout the day, my vote is for OhYeah! Victory Bars. Given the chance, try one out today!
CHASING THE TOP!
